Who We Are


Liberty High PTSA is a non-profit member organization dedicated to supporting the LHS community.  We are affiliated with the Washington State PTA and the National PTA.  We are governed by the WA State PTA Uniform Bylaws and our own member-approved Standing Rules.  We are recognized by the State of Washington and the IRS as a 501(c)3 charitable organization which means that donations to the LH PTSA are tax deductible to the extent allowed.  Our Board of Directors includes officers elected by the general membership and appointed committee chairs. 
LH PTSA meetings are held typically on the third Tuesday of each month when school is in session.  We have board meetings throughout the year and all are welcome to attend.  General Membership meetings are held four times a year.  Click here to see past meeting minutes.

Liberty High PTSA Committees


Audit
The Audit Committee is responsible for completing the required annual audit of the LH PTSA accounting records during the month of July.  This committee reviews the financial reports against the receipts, banks statements and reports the audit results to the general membership.  Contact:  Scottie Price

Awards
The Awards Committee is responsible for gathering nominations for the Golden Acorn and Outstanding Educator Awards and selecting the awardees.  The committee orders awards, gathers personal information for presentations, writes newsletter articles on winners and presents awards at meetings and ceremonies. Budget
The budget committee is responsible for developing a draft budget to present to membership at the May or June General Membership meeting.  They request budget information from active committees, compile this information, and prepare the draft budget for the upcoming year.  This budget is then submitted for review and approval by the general membership.  Contact: Lynn Bisset

Campus Beautification
This committee works to improve and maintain Liberty High School Campus, including landscaping, interior public spaces, building maintenance issues and general appearance.  The work is done by volunteers – mainly students – at one to two events per year, typically in the Fall and Spring.  Committee Chair position is open.  For more information, contact LibertyHighPTSA@gmail.com.

Communications Coordinator
The Communications Coordinator helps to implement a consistent communication process for the LH PTSA using the website, mail group, newsletter, school reader board, school enews, daily announcements, press releases, etc.  Committee chairs work with the Communications Coordinator to develop communication plans and the coordinator helps to remind chairs of deadlines for various communication channels.  Contact: Imelda Dulcich.

Directory
The LH PTSA puts together a directory of Liberty students and other helpful information at the start of each school year.  The Directory is completed early in the school year and delivered to PTSA members through kidmail.  Committee chair position is open.  For more information, contact LibertyHighPTSA@gmail.com.



Donation Coordinator
Each year at the start of the school year, the PTSA asks families to donate to the “Cash for Kids” campaign to allow for the continuation of programs and enrichment grants funded through donations to the PTSA.  The Donation Coordinator works to advertise the Cash for Kids campaign at the start of the school year and also oversees other PTSA fundraising to ensure that fundraising is consistent with the PTSA goals.  For more information contact Diana Ransier.

Enrichment Grants
Enrichment grants are awarded three times a year based on recommendations by the Enrichment Grant Committee.  Staff completes the grant request form and turns it in by the given deadlines to the Committee.  The Committee reviews the requests for compliance with the grant requirements and makes a recommendation at a PTSA meeting to award or not award the grant.  The Committee follows up with staff to let them know the outcome of their grant requests and assists in any required PTSA paperwork.  Committee chair position is open.  For more information, contact LibertyHighPTSA@gmail.com.

Escrip Coordinator
Escrip is a program that allows LH PTSA to receive donations from companies where our families shop.  The main source of funds is through registering safeway cards of families.  The coordinator manages the summer escrip back to school program to get people signed up and eligible receipts entered into the escrip system and encourages families to register their Safeway card with escrip and to use the on-line mall for on-line shopping.   Contact: Diane Jones or Gail Costello.

Hospitality
The Hospitality Committee is a large group of volunteers who provide refreshments for Curriculum Night, student recognition breakfasts, Senior interviews, Senior awards night, and other student or family events as identified.  This chair position is open.  For more information, please contact LibertyHighPTSA@gmail.com.


ISF Representative
The Issaquah Schools Foundation is a valuable funding partner in the District.  While PTSA focuses on an individual school, ISF works to increase student achievement, support struggling students and fund professional staff development at every school in the District. The PTSA ISF Representative is responsible for increasing awareness of ISF among parents using newsletter articles, ensuring stickers are on all ISF funded items, talking at PTSA Meetings and coordinating a table at the ISF luncheon in the spring.  This chair position is open.  For more information, contact LibertyHighPTSA@gmail.com.

Legislative Representative
The Legislative Representative organizes and disseminates information regarding local and statewide legislative issues that pertain to public education or child advocacy.  To keep members informed on issues and to represent LH PTSA, the Representative submits articles for the monthly PTSA newsletter, talks at monthly PTSA meetings, participate in the Legislative Assembly and Focus Day, and encourages membership to take action, such as contacting their elected officials, on issues supported by the PTSA.  For more information, contact Carolyne Kine.

Mail Group
The Mail Group is used to communicate with members and non-members.  The Mail Group is kept up to date and utilized to announce the newsletter and other news throughout the month.  For more information, contact Luellen Smith.

Membership
Each fall, the PTSA holds a membership campaign to encourage families to join the PTSA.  The Membership Chair inputs membership information into a statewide database, prints, and delivers membership cards to all of our members.  Members can join throughout the year, however, membership payments are due to the State in October, January and May.  For more information, contact Diane Jones or Gail Costello.

Newsletter
The Newsletter comes out on a monthly basis during the school year.  It is a vehicle used to convey information to the parents/ students at the school and includes information from the PTSA chairs, teachers, school administrators, and school clubs.  The newsletter is published in pdf format and posted to the PTSA website.  Deadlines for information for the newsletter are available on the website. Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee is responsible for recruiting members to take on the leadership roles of the PTSA.  The Nominating Committee attends district training, advertises the positions in the newsletter and website, gathers a list of potential candidates, identifies at least one member for each position and posts the proposed officer slate.  The slate is presented to the general membership at a meeting in the spring. Parent Education
The Parent Education committee is responsible for coordinating 3-4 educational opportunities each year for parents in the Liberty Community, adding Parent Education information to the newsletter and on the website, and advertising local parent education opportunities to our families. Reflections
The Reflections Program is a National PTA arts competition. A local competition is held among Liberty students starting in October.  Students create art to represent the annual theme and submit it to the Reflections Chair for judging by local judges.  The Reflections Chair ensures that the National rules are met by the entries and coordinates the judging of entries.  Winning entries at Liberty move on to compete at the District level.  This chairperson position is open.  For more information, contact LibertyHighPTSA@gmail.com.


SAT/ACT Prep
The LH PTSA coordinates and advertises SAT and ACT Test Preparation classes and practice tests.  We work to ensure that these classes are readily available to Liberty students.  For more information, contact Debra Rogers.

Senior Events 2010
The Senior Events Committee is responsible for helping the Senior Class celebrate the end of high school and graduation in a safe and healthy way, including supporting the Senior Grad Party.  For more information contact Vanessa McDonald.

Staff Appreciation
The Staff Appreciation committee coordinates numerous gestures of appreciation to the Liberty staff, typically held at the beginning of the school year, before winter break, and Staff Appreciation week.  A large number of volunteers help to make these activities successful. VIS Representative
The VIS Representative works with the Issaquah Council and the Volunteers for Issaquah Schools to pass the school district levy.  This includes providing information to the PTSA, recruiting volunteers to help with the campaign, sending out informational materials and putting up reminder signs.  Position not filled this year as is not a levy year.  For questions, contact LibertyHighPTSA@gmail.com.


Webmaster
The Webmaster is responsible for keeping the website up to date, including adding new information and removing out-of-date information.  For more information, contact Betsy Pendleton.
